Omphaloskepsis

In mid 2018 I left the UK. I initially moved to Venice for three months and then went back to Israel after being away for 9 years. The series Omphaloskepsis was conceived during this process of repatriation. It is a form of contemplation on my roots, origins, personal & national identity.

The series ‘Omphaloskepsis’ utilises the Navel as the centre point of the human body, displaced and affixed onto everyday objects. The objects range from ones we carry around in our bag, to object we interact with our body. Objects that allude to movement and transition. The navel here explores the feelings of displacement and ambiguity- part of the experience of being an immigrant. It symbolises the scar of detachment, movement and immigration. These draw attention to current policies on immigration in contemporary times.
